Adapt to their communication style
Despite the fact that we operate out of a 2,500-square-foot office, Google Talk instant messages bounce from computer to computer while our jean-clad work force hums along to whatever is playing on their iPods. While I sometimes struggle with this casual environment, millennials' ability to embrace new technology is a key factor to succeeding in our business. So we adapt.
They are too casual: When we are in the office, we dress comfortably. If we are seeing a customer, we dress professionally.
They want instant gratification: Young people have always been more interested in growth opportunities rather than safety. We constantly motivate our staff by involving them in our ultimate goal: building a fast-growing, profitable company with plenty of opportunity for their careers.
They feel entitled and lack a willingness to pay their dues: The ones we've found like this, we get rid of them.
